Dragon Within Series

Discovering The Spirit (Dragon Within #1) by [Dune, Kyra]

Have you ever noticed how life can shift all of sudden? You’re going along thinking everything is great and then WHAM, you get hit by a bus. Well, maybe not a literal bus, but you get what I mean, right? I’m talking about that moment in time when everything changes and life as you know it comes to a crashing halt.

My name is Abigail Freeman and for me, that moment came on my sixteenth birthday. It wasn't anything so dramatic as getting hit by a bus. In fact, it was so subtle it didn't even seem like anything at the time. A cool breeze where there shouldn't have been one. A stranger in the park. And then everything I thought I knew was turned inside out. What do you do, when you find out you aren't who you thought you were?

Eye Of The Storm by Kyra Dune

Eye Of The Storm (Stormwatch Saga #4) by [Dune, Kyra]

In the fourth installment in the Stormwatch Saga, Gellen is desperately trying to make Samar's dream come true so he can finally escape from under the shadow of his former lover. But to do that means overturning centuries of tradition and convincing a king to change the ancients laws of his land. Marisa would do anything to aid her brother, but she'll soon find herself with troubles of her own. The kind of troubles that could bring the world down on all their heads.

Haven't started the series yet? Check out Part One to see how it all begins.

Two young children. Each carrying a special gift. Both caught up in the beginnings of a storm that will rage across two continents and alter the course of the future for their entire world. See how it all begins in this part one of the Stormwatch Saga.

Rook by J.C. Andrijeski

4 STARS

From the moment I started this book I was pulled into the story. It was interesting, and exciting, and I really liked Allie. This was definitely an action packed book, filled with intense scenes almost from start to finish. I loved every minute of it.

The Dragon Engine by Andy Remic

3 STARS

I thought this book was okay. It had a well fleshed out, detailed setting. Good world building. And the characters were mostly pretty interesting. Talon was my favorite, though he wasn't one of the focus characters so he didn't get a lot of page time.
The story started out kind of slow, but things really picked up once the companions reached the mountains. There's a sort of old school, epic fantasy kind of feel about the quest, but the book deviates off from that in most other areas.
This book is pretty graphic, so if you're not into that you might want to stay clear. But if that doesn't bother you, this a decent read.

I didn't like this book much when I first started reading it. It begins rather abruptly and made me feel like I was dropped right into the middle of the story, in a bad kind of way. It was a little disorienting, and made it hard for me to connect with the main character, Maea. That being said, I grew to like the book better the more I read. Some of the characters kind of blur into each other, but the main ones are fairly distinct and interesting, and the story is decent for the most part.
My biggest problem with this book is that the entire plot is based around the fact that Maea has been stripped of her memories. Had that not happened, the entire book would not have happened, or at the least would have played out much differently. Now, that premise isn't bad on its own, it could even have made for a more interesting story, but the reason for the removal of her memories was flimsy. Especially since doing so had the exact opposite outcome of what certain characters wanted to have happen. I think I would have liked it better had Maea not been so clueless.
By the end I enjoyed the book well enough to give it three stars, but I haven't decided if I care enough to buy Book Two.

Throne Of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

3 STARS

I enjoyed reading about the kingdom's most deadly assassin, who loves frilly dresses and puppies. Celaena feels like a real person with a layered personality, who has spent almost her entire life just struggling to stay alive. I like that she is snarky and tough, but vulnerable too. She has fears and doubts and faults. Very three dimensional. And I enjoyed the love triangle. It was handled well and it took me awhile to decide who I wanted her to end up with.
The main plot, I think, was the murder mystery, but there were plenty of subplots to keep the story interesting. It did drag a bit in places and was perhaps not as action focused as I might have liked. Not a lot of 'assassin' type stuff, though I suspect there may be more of that in subsequent books. I definitely intend to read on to find out.
