Eighteen-year-old Sophie Shelton has left behind her comfortable, naive life in Kissimmee, Florida for a startling awakening at the University of Miami. When she begins college, she’s determined to concentrate on her education and future career as a writer. However, her life takes an unexpected turn, and she finds herself thrust into a world she never knew existed.
Immersed completely in a world of sex, love, and cutthroat Greek life, she finds herself dating the freshman quarterback, yet developing feelings for his best friend. Her own best friend advises Sophie to stop leading the two guys on, but she finds that her heart is torn. She knows her path could go either way based upon a seemingly simple choice. Who does her heart belong to? Will she be able to make the choice?
Freshman Year, book one in the These Four Years series, will cause you to fall in love with the angst and joy of college, and understand the difficulty of Sophie’s predicament at the center of a love triangle.
Sophie Shelton: Sophie is a naive college freshman who has decided to wait for sex in this sex-obsessed world. She is lactose intolerant, average height and looks, yet confident in herself, but she struggles with decision. She wants the best of both worlds. And why not? Her goal is to be a writer. She writes everything down and notices everything. Yet she doesn’t notice who she can love more, even though he’s right in front of her.
Steven Sterling: Steven is from Arizona, the childhood friend of Ryan Olsen, and is more of a loner than anything else. He reads the great novels and listens to emo rock. His love for Sophie is beyond words; he has trouble discussing his feelings. Steven is tall and dark, skinny, but fit. He is intelligent and not your likely fraternity member.
Ryan Olsen: Ryan is the star quarterback. He doesn’t let this define him, though. He’s more than a hot jock with a fan club. His dream isn’t the NFL, but he hasn’t quite sorted that out yet. There is a pull that keeps bringing him to Sophie and he can’t explain it, but he does know that he loves her. Ryan always has the perfect words--you’d think he was a lothario.
